Warangal B.Tech Student Loses ₹7.8 Lakh in Crypto Investment Scam

Crypto Investment Scam:
A B.Tech student from Warangal became a victim of a major cyber scam. Cybercriminals cheated him of ₹7.83 lakh using a fake crypto investment scheme. The student has filed a complaint with the Warangal Cyber Crime Police and an investigation is underway.

Crypto Investment Scam:

Cyber frauds are rising on social media platforms. Scammers are targeting innocent users and draining their bank accounts. In a recent case from Hanamkonda district, a young engineering student lost his savings to a crypto scam.

The student is from Uppalapalli village in Kamalapur mandal and is studying B.Tech in a college in Warangal. On April 16, he received a message on WhatsApp from an unknown number. The message offered money for giving ratings to hotels. Believing the offer, he followed the instructions and rated the hotels.

After the initial task, the scammers sent him a new link. It redirected him to a Telegram group, where they asked him to continue rating hotels as part of a “task.” They then claimed he could invest the earned money in cryptocurrency and earn double the returns.

He trusted the scammers and first sent ₹1,000 through PhonePe. They showed fake profits to gain his trust. Encouraged by these fake results, he started investing more money.

On April 29, he transferred ₹1 lakh. Later, he was told to send more money to withdraw the profits. He sent ₹79,000 next. The scammers kept making new demands with different excuses. Over time, he transferred a total of ₹7.83 lakh.

When the student was not able to withdraw any amount and kept receiving payment requests, he realized he was cheated. He approached the Cyber Crime Police Station under Warangal Commissionerate and filed a complaint. The Cyber Wing registered a case and started an investigation under Kamalapur Police Station limits.

Police have warned the public not to believe ads or messages promising high profits on social media. They advised users to avoid unknown links and apps.

Cyber experts urge people to stay alert and never share personal or financial details with strangers online. Investment scams are becoming more advanced, especially those using crypto as bait.
