Closed on Ambedkar Jayanti:

This national holiday is marked across India with special observances in Tamil Nadu, Telangana, Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra and Madhya Pradesh. As it is a government-recognized holiday, many public institutions and services will remain closed.

The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has included April 14 in its official holiday list for many states. Therefore, banks will not operate in states such as West Bengal, Bihar, Jharkhand, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Kerala, Rajasthan, Gujarat, Assam, Odisha, Goa and others. Government offices, schools, colleges, post offices, and public sector services in these areas will also be shut.

However, not all regions will see closures. Banks will stay open in a few places like Madhya Pradesh, New Delhi, Himachal Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Nagaland, and Meghalaya. Even in states where banks are closed, people can still use internet banking, WhatsApp banking and SMS services for their transactions.

Additionally financial markets like the National Stock Exchange (NSE) and Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) will also remain closed on this day. However most private businesses and retail outlets are expected to function as usual.

Whether you’re planning to travel or simply relax, it’s wise to check which services are available in your region and plan ahead for the holiday.
