What’s Happening with Air India Flights? Constant Issues Post-Crash Concerns Travellers

Air India Flights: The devastating crash of an Air India plane on June 12, 2025. In Ahmedabad, killing more than 275 people, has not only plunged the country into mourning but also inflicted persistent shock upon travelers. Even as investigations into the crash go on, the repercussions have uncovered a series of shocking incidents surrounding Air India, breaking the faith of public in the airworthiness of the airline.

A Spate of Technical Glitches

Air India flights have, following the Ahmedabad crash, allegedly suffered numerous technical failures and cancellations. The cabin pressure failure was encountered by passengers on a recent Mumbai-Delhi flight in mid-air, necessitating an emergency landing. An Air India Kolkata-Bengaluru flight was delayed by six hours after suffering an engine failure, leaving hundreds of passengers stranded. Such frequent failures, albeit infrequent, have added to increasing anxieties among regular air travelers.

Travellers Express Concerns

A few passengers have gone online, posting complaints of in-flight anxiety, pre-flight mechanical checks visible through windows, and last-minute change of aircraft. “I was reluctant to board following the news,” said an IT professional from Bengaluru. Travel operators also cite cancellations and rerouting requests by customers not wanting to board Air India, particularly on international flights.

Authorities Under Pressure

The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) directed detailed audits on Air India’s records of maintenance on aircraft and flight crew procedures. Although no mass negligence has been established, the airline received recommendations for enhancing safety check measures and openness about delay and technical issues.

Air India Responds

Air India, now owned by Tata Group, has issued statements guaranteeing passengers better safety measures and enhanced maintenance checks. The airline has promised investments in staff training and aircraft overhauls, particularly in the flights that fly older models. Experts, however, warn that trust will only be regained through the relentless passage of time.

A Critical Crossroads

The post-crash unrest Air India is undergoing isn’t just operational. It’s reputational. Being India’s national carrier, the airline is at a crossroads. Whether it will come back stronger and regain public trust depends on timely remedial measures, open communication, and an unwavering commitment to safety over everything else.
