WhatsApp to Stop Working on These Phones from June 1, 2025

WhatsApp to Stop Working on These Phones from June 1, 2025

WhatsApp not working from June 1:
Many people use WhatsApp every day for messaging, calling, and sharing media. But from June 1, 2025, WhatsApp will stop working on some older smartphones. This decision has surprised many users. Meta, the company that owns WhatsApp, has announced that the app will no longer support iPhones running iOS 15 or older, and Android phones running Android 5.0 or earlier versions.

WhatsApp not working from June 1:
Which iPhones Will Be Affected?

Here are the iPhone models that will not support WhatsApp after June 1:

iPhone 5s
iPhone 6
iPhone 6 Plus
iPhone 6s
iPhone 6s Plus
iPhone SE (1st generation)

Which Android Phones Will Be Affected?

The Android models losing support include:

Samsung Galaxy S4
Samsung Galaxy Note 3
Sony Xperia Z1
LG G2
Huawei Ascend P6
Moto G (1st generation)
Motorola RAZR HD
Moto E 2014

These phones are old and have not received software updates in a long time. Because of this, they are no longer safe or efficient to use with apps like WhatsApp.

What Can Users Do?

If your phone is on this list, you can check whether it still supports software updates. If your phone can be updated to iOS 15.1 or Android 5.1 or later, WhatsApp will still work. If not, you might have to buy a new phone.

Before WhatsApp stops working, the app advises users to back up their chat history. You can do this by going to WhatsApp settings → Chats → Chat Backup, and then follow the instructions to save your chats to Google Drive or iCloud. This will help you restore your messages on a new phone.

Why Is This Change Happening?

The main reason is security. Older operating systems no longer get updates and are more at risk of hacking and other security issues. WhatsApp wants users to move to newer phones that are safer and work better.

So, if you’re using an old phone, check now if WhatsApp will still work. If not, back up your chats and consider switching to a newer model.
