Who is Wing Commander Vyomika Singh & Colonel Sofiya Qureshi?

Operation Sindoor: Wing Commander Vyomika Singh, Colonel Sofiya Qureshi, and Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri told the country on Wednesday about India’s overnight missile strikes into Pakistan and the Palestinian Ocean, which targeted nine terror facilities.


What is Operation Sindoor?
In the response to the pahalgam attack by the Pakistani militant group, India hit four places in Pakistan. In the places Bahawalpur, Muridke, and Sialkot, and five in Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir (PoK) are included. The detailed places were given below.

2. Markaz Taiba, Muridke
3. Sarjal / Tehra Kalan
4. Mehmoona Joya Facility, Sialko
5. Markaz Ahle Hadith Barnala, Bhimber

Who is Wing Commander Vyomika Singh?

When Wing Commander Vyomika Singh was in school, she had a desire that ultimately led her to join the Air Force: she wanted to fly. Interestingly, her name, “Vyomika,” alludes to someone who is a daughter of the sky or who resides there. To move closer to her goal, she later joined the National Cadet Corps (NCC) and went on to graduate with an engineering degree.

Eventually, Vyomika joined the military, becoming the first member of her family to do so. She received her commission in the Indian Air Force as a helicopter pilot. Subsequently, she was granted a permanent commission in the flying branch on December 18, 2019. Since then, Vyomika has flown various helicopters, including the Cheetah and Chetak, in challenging terrains across the Northeast and Jammu & Kashmir. Notably, according to sources, she has flown more than 2,500 hours and participated in numerous missions, the most significant of which took place in Arunachal Pradesh in November 2020.

Who is Colonel Sofiya Qureshi?

Colonel Sofiya Qureshi serves in the Corps of Signals in the Indian Army. Her many innovative achievements have secured her a prominent place in military history. At just 35, she leads by example both on and off the field and continues to inspire many through her legacy.

In March 2016, Lieutenant Colonel Qureshi became the first female officer to lead an Indian Army detachment during an international military exercise. India hosted Exercise Force 18, the largest international military drill in the country’s history. Forces from 18 countries including ASEAN states and major world powers like Japan, Russia, China, the United States, South Korea, New Zealand, and Australia—took part in the war games held in Pune from March 2 to March 8.

Qureshi led her team during crucial training sessions that focused on humanitarian mine action (HMA) and peacekeeping operations (PKOs). Earlier, in 2006, she reportedly participated in the United Nations Peacekeeping Mission in Congo as a military observer. Since 2010, she has remained actively involved in peacekeeping missions, where she continues to make significant contributions.
