Why Is Aadhaar Card Mobile Number Link Important

Aadhaar card is a mandatory identity card used for government and monetary services in India. Linking your mobile number to your Aadhaar number is one of the most fundamental authentication and security measures. Most of you have already linked your mobile number to your Aadhaar number, but some have not – and there are consequences. Why Is Aadhaar Card Mobile Number Link Important?

Aadhaar Card Mobile Number Link

From the government point-of-view, linking Aadhaar-mobile offers a secure, authenticated identity that can be used not only for online transaction, but also for government benefits. It prevents fraud and identity theft. Plus, after you activate your Aadhaar number, you can authenticate OTP (One-Time Password) against services such as banking, e-KYC, and e-filing income tax.

Three Main Disadvantages of not Linking Aadhaar-mobile
1. Loss of access to government schemes
Some welfare schemes require Aadhaar-verified authentication, such as LPG subsidy payments, PM Kisan Samman Nidhi, and pensions. Without a linked mobile number, you won’t be able to verify yourself, nor have the benefit of accessing these large welfare schemes.

2. Banking and Financial Restrictions
Aadhaar-linked numbers are sought by most banks to complete transactions or to perform KYC changes. Not linking it can lead to locked accounts or declined transactions due to ineligibility because of absence of OTP verification.

3. Problem in Accessing Digital Services
From ticket booking over the web to filing income tax returns, digital services rely on OTPs for verification. If your mobile number is not associated with Aadhaar, you may not be able to receive important services like DigiLocker, UPI apps, and PAN-Aadhaar linking.

How to Link Aadhaar with Your Mobile Number

It is easy to link your Aadhaar. You can go to your nearest Aadhaar Seva Kendra or retail shop of any telco. Take the original Aadhaar card and a supporting identity proof. Your biometric verification will be done, and the number will typically be linked within 24-48 hours.

Linking your Aadhaar with your mobile number is not simply a compliance process, but a necessary protection of your identity and ease of access to essential services. Do not let yourself go through unnecessary hassles, link your Aadhaar as soon as possible.
