Air India Flight: On Thursday, just after taking off from Ahmedabad International Airport, the AI-171 Boeing Dreamliner 787-8 aircraft headed for London’s Gatwick crashed. According to the airlines, only one of the 242 passengers on board the plane made it out alive.
First Officer Clive Kundar, who had 1,100 flying hours, piloted the aircraft alongside Line Training Captain Sumeet Sabharwal, who had 8,200 hours of flying experience. Air Traffic Control (ATC) reports that the plane took off from Ahmedabad at 1339 IST (0809 UTC) from runway 23. ATC received a Mayday contact from the aircraft, but the aircraft did not reply to their calls after that.
10 Minutes Meant a Lifetime:
A woman barely survived the terrible accident of Air India flight AI-171, missing her flight to London by ten minutes. Due to traffic, Bhoomi Chauhan missed the Ahmedabad flight by a few minutes but was expected to be on it.
Chauhan claimed that she was “still shivering” from thinking about her fortunate escape and that she had missed her flight by only ten minutes.
In the media interview, she said, “I am completely devastated after hearing about the loss (of lives). My body is shivering. I am not able to talk. My mind is blank now after hearing all that has happened.”

She said she left Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport around 1:30 p.m. after missing the flight. Just minutes later, at 1:38 p.m., the Air India flight to London took off and tragically crashed in a neighborhood near the airport.
“My mind is completely blank. I thank God. My Ganpati Bappa saved me,” she said. Chauhan had planned to fly back to London alone on that flight. After spending two years away, she had returned to India for a holiday and now lives in London with her husband. “I missed the flight by just ten minutes. I still can’t find the words to describe this,” she added.
