World’s Cheapest City: As inflation continues to surge across India, the cost of living has become one of the most pressing daily concerns. Many people often wonder if there’s a place in India where they can live or travel without spending much. According to the International Survey 2025, Coimbatore has emerged as the cheapest city to live in India.
Belgrade-based research firm Numbeo conducted the survey and released the report, which ranks Coimbatore as the most affordable city globally. The survey assessed major cities and towns based on key factors such as salaries, food, transportation, healthcare, education, and overall cost of living. Coimbatore secured the top position for offering a quality lifestyle at a relatively low cost. Often described as a city of natural beauty and spiritual calm, Coimbatore continues to provide a comfortable and budget-friendly life, particularly for India’s middle-class population. While many cities across India face mounting economic pressure due to inflation, Coimbatore has managed to remain accessible and affordable.
The report also placed Alexandria in Egypt as the second cheapest city, followed by Lahore and Karachi in Pakistan. Several Indian cities featured in the top 10 list as well, with Lucknow ranked fifth, Jaipur sixth, and Surat seventh. Coimbatore’s ranking not only highlights its economic appeal but also reinforces its growing reputation as a livable and sustainable urban center. As other parts of the country struggle with rising prices, this South Indian city offers a rare blend of affordability, culture, and quality of life.

Most Expensive City:
On the other end of the spectrum, Zurich in Switzerland claimed the top spot as the most expensive city globally. Lausanne and Geneva, also in Switzerland, followed close behind. New York City in the United States ranked fourth, while Swiss cities continued to dominate the top six most expensive positions. The report noted that living in these cities demands significant income, with steep prices for housing, food, and other essentials.
Even with the rising cost of living worldwide, Coimbatore continues to showcase its rich culture and spiritual experience. The city offers many iconic places to visit. These include the Marudhamalai Murugan Temple, Ichanari Vinayagar Temple, Dhyanalinga Temple, Gas Forest Museum, Siruvani Waterfalls, and the Puliyakulam Ganesha statue.
