After protests against the Waqf (Amendment) Act descended into violence, clashes broke out in Murshidabad, West Bengal, on Friday, leaving dozens injured and three people dead. In the midst of this, the Bharatiya Janata Party and social media users have taken issue with a post made by Yusuf Pathan, a former cricket player and Trinamool Congress MP.
Wrong Post, Wrong Time?
On Saturday, Yusuf Pathan, the parliamentarian for West Bengal’s Baharampur Lok Sabha seat, posted a picture of himself lounging and drinking tea on Instagram. “Calm surroundings, good chai, and easy afternoons,” Pathan wrote as the description for the photo. Simply enjoying the now.
Some online users weren’t happy with this. The comment, “Waha murshidabad jaal raha hai aur aap ghum rahe ho?,” was left by a user beneath the post. As you travel, Murshidabad is on fire. “Do you even know what’s going on in your constituency???” inquired another.
Tea Post Sparks Row, Pathan Silent:
Shehzad Poonawala, the spokesperson for the Bharatiya Janata Party, did not pass up the chance to criticize MP Yusuf Pathan and Trinamool leader Mamata Banerjee over the latter’s post. Bengal is on fire, Poonawala wrote in a post on X (which was formerly Twitter). HC has stated that it cannot deploy central forces while keeping its eyes closed. While the police remain mute, Mamata Banerjee is promoting this kind of state-protected violence! As Hindus are massacred, Yusuf Pathan, MP, takes a sip of tea and enjoys the experience. This is TMC. Yusuf Pathan has not yet reacted to the comments and criticism.
