Harry Styles Rejects Role with Game of Thrones Star Emilia Clarke. For one very important reason, Harry Styles declined a highly sought-after part in a romantic comedy with Emilia Clarke.
Harry Styles, The One Direction member, went on to become a solo performer. He was asked to play the lead in Paul Feig’s Christmas-themed romantic comedy. The movie is titled Last Christmas, however Harry declined the offer. After the movie came out, Styles explained why he turned down the opportunity to appear in it. By that, he already featured Dunkirk, Marvel’s Eternals, and Don’t Worry Darling.
Styles had been the first option for the part, but Henry Golding of The Gentlemen fame eventually took it. At the box office, the 2019 movie, which featured starred Clarke and Emma Thompson, brought in £100 million. Styles would not disclose that he had been asked for the film’s starring role until November 2021, despite the fact that Last Christmas had begun filming in September 2018. Only two years later, he would make an appearance in Eternals.
Styles, who last starred in the movie My Policeman in 2022, acknowledged that he declined Last Christmas because he thought he was too “young” for the character. Feig, the director, also revealed his want to collaborate with the Watermelon Sugar vocalist.
He said: “I love Harry. We wanted him to play the part that Henry Golding played but he turned it down because he felt he was too young for the role. I’ve tried to get him in a few movies.”
Even though Golding took Styles’ place in the George Michael-inspired film, Styles would have to replace another well-known actor three years later.
Shia LaBeouf was predicted to play the lead in the Don’t Worry Darling, starring Florence Pugh. However, a back and forth between the Transformers star, who said he felt he was not given enough time to prepare, and director Olivia Wilde, who said she had sacked LaBeouf from the movie, resulted in Styles taking his place. LaBeouf disagrees that he had been dismissed from the project.
