The character of Mufasa will be voiced by Tollywood star Mahesh Babu in Disney’s upcoming musical drama film Mufasa: The Lion King, which opens on December 20. This movie retells the well-known tale, focusing on Mufasa’s beginnings.

Mahesh Babu’s wife, Namrata Shirodkar, spoke on his behalf and provided information about the project at a recent media gathering. She candidly said , “It is regrettable that Mahesh was unable to attend the pre release event”. She expressed her excitement about seeing the movie on December 20. She remarked after seeing the trailer that she has always enjoyed Disney movies, particularly The Lion King, and that it is quite touching to witness Mufasa come to life on screen.”

Furthermore, Namrata discussed Mahesh’s experience with dubbing for the film, noting that while he typically does not enjoy dubbing for his own projects, he found joy in voicing Mufasa. In addition to Mahesh Babu, other notable Telugu actors such as Brahmanandam, Ali, Satyadev, and Ayyappa Sharma have also contributed their voices to the film.
The musical drama film directed by Barry Jenkins from a screenplay written by Jeff Nathanson. Produced by Walt Disney Pictures, the film is photorealistically animated, and both a prequel and sequel to the 2019 remake of the 1994 film The Lion King. Donald Glover, Seth Rogen, Billy Eichner, John Kani, and Beyoncé Knowles-Carter reprise their roles from the remake; new cast members include Aaron Pierre, Kelvin Harrison Jr., Tiffany Boone, Mads Mikkelsen, Thandiwe Newton, Lennie James, Anika Noni Rose, and Blue Ivy Carter in her feature film debut.

The film’s final trailer was unveiled at D23 Brazil on November 8, 2024, alongside a new poster feauturing Mufasa, Taka, Rafiki, Zazu, Timon, Pumba, and Kiara. It was well received by the Disney fans all over the world.

Mufasa: The Lion King is scheduled to be released in the United States by Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures on December 20, 2024 in multiple languages.
