Undoubtedly one of the most loved movie of the past ten years is the romance drama “96” released in 2018. It stars Vijay Sethupathi and Trisha Krishnan in the key parts. However did you know that Abhishek Bachchan was originally supposed to play the protagonist in this “96” Bollywood film?
Recently in the Screenwriters Association of India Indian Screenwriters Conference “96” director Prem Kumar disclosed that he had originally written the movie as a Hindi feature and wanted to present it to Abhishek Bachchan. Unfortunately, the director said he didn’t have the contacts at the time.
In addition the director of Meiyazhagan discussed his affection and bond with Hindi cinema. “My father grew up in North India and I know Hindi very well” the director stated. As a result I grew up watching Hindi movies all the time. Actor Naseeruddin Shah was his favorite. Director also mentioned that he had finished one Hindi script.
The director’s disscusion took place during the Indian Screenwriters Conference’s “The South Saga: Rooted, Relevant and Revolutionary” session. Other famous directors from the conference are Saripodha Sanivaaram fame Vivek Athreya, Christo Tomy of Ullozhukku fame, and Hemanth M Rao of Sapta Sagaradaache Ello fame.
For those who are unaware, “96” is a love drama film that starred Trisha Krishnan and Vijay Sethupathi. It was released in 2018. Devadarshini, Janagaraj, Bagavathi Perumal, and numerous more played important parts in the movie. Twenty-two years after graduating from high school two high school sweethearts reunite in the movie.
Due in large part to the emotional depth and nostalgia of the subject matter the film received both critical and financial success. Following its premiere film has got into list of the best Tamil love films ever made.
