Due to Ram Navami celebrations, the local police have not granted security clearance for the KKR VS LSG IPL home game on April 6 at Eden Gardens, hence it is likely to be rescheduled. Since BJP leader Suvendu Adhikari previously declared that more than 20,000 processions would be held throughout West Bengal on Ram Navami, the state’s security needs have increased. Following two rounds of talks with the city police on Tuesday, Snehasish Ganguly, president of the Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB), revealed that officials “have not given the go-ahead” for the match. “They have stated unequivocally that they will not be able to offer sufficient security. A mob of 65,000 people cannot be accommodated without police protection, Snehasish stated.
“We have informed the BCCI, and there is still time to take a final call. Even last year, a scheduled IPL match on Ram Navami had to be rescheduled.” Both KKR and LSG, owned by RPSG Group chairman Sanjiv Goenka, had a lot of local support, therefore it was anticipated that the match would be packed.
The IPL match between the Rajasthan Royals and KKR was also postponed last season because of security concerns surrounding Ram Navami.
According to the sources, Bollywood stars Varun Dhawan, Shraddha Kapoor, and singer Arijit Singh are going to perform in the opening ceremony. KKR Co-owner Shah Rukh Khan is going to attend and cheer up for his team. Apart from them, Salman Khan is also going to attend this ceremony, it is expected that he is going to promote his upcoming film, Sikandar. Apart from these celebrities, Priyanka Chopra, Varun Dhawan, and Shraddha Kapoor are also going to attend this opening ceremony. These celebrities are expected to perform in the opening ceremony in the evening of entertainment.
