Ganan Shekar enters Indian Society of Cinematographers

On November 7, Thursday, the official Instagram handle of the Indian Cinematographers Union (ISC) announced Gnana Shekar V .S. as a , member. This opportunity is considered as an honour by every member in the Union. Gnana Shekar is a renowned cinematographer and painter based in Hyderabad and Mumbai. Influenced by artistic masters like Vincent Van Gogh and Niko Pirosmani, Gnana Shekar initially pursued painting, blending modernist perspectives with naturalistic forms. Later, he transitioned to photography and cinematography, starting his career with television promos, ads and documentaries in Mumbai. Ganan Shekar enters Indian Society of Cinematographers.


Ganan Shekar enters Indian Society of Cinematographers:

The Indian Society of Cinematographers was inaugurated on the eve of the 100th birthday of cinema on 28th December 1995. The website of the ISC describes the society as “a creative congregation of similar minds to foster the art of cinematography and to struggle for authorship rights of cinematographers.”

He gained critical acclaim with his debut as an independent cinematographer in ‘Vedam’ (2010), recognized for its realistic approach. He won state awards for best cinematography
for ‘Malli Malli Idi Rani Roju’ (2014) and ‘Kanche’ (2015).


Gnana Shekar’s cinematography in ‘Antariksham 9000 KPH’, Telugu cinema’s first space film, showcased his ability to depict weightlessness through innovative lighting and camera techniques creatively. His recent work on ‘IB71 (2023)’ , a period film set during the 1971 East Pakistan war, earned him the Dadasaheb Phalke Film Festival award for Best Cinematography. Throughout his career, he has continued to explore the art of painting and motion pictures, pushing the boundaries of visual storytelling.
