Prithviraj Sukumaran Must Respond by April End: IT Dept – Malayalam ace actor and director Prithviraj Sukumaran is currently enjoying the blockbuster success of his latest directorial L2: Empuraan. At this time, Prithviraj received a notice from the Income Tax Department seeking clarification. The IT department carried out inspections in 2022 regarding his three films as co-producer. It wants clear information on the income details he declared for three films he co-produced.
According to reports, Prithviraj earned nearly ₹40 crore as a co-producer. It appears that the authorities found disparities in his earnings declarations. The obligations for an actor’s remuneration and producer income vary. IT officials informed Prithviraj to furnish accurate details by the end of April. While this is not a new thing, the notice coming at this stage grabs all the attention.
The notice has nothing to do with the L2: Empuraan success. The film witnessed massive pre-ticket sales across the world and became a super hit. It became the highest-grossing Malayalam film of all time, surpassing 2018 and Manjummel Boys.
It looks like the South actors are following the Bollywood stars in terms of earnings. Instead of remunerations, the South stars now prefer profit sharing. Big stars like Shah Rukh Khan, Aamir Khan, and Salman Khan do not charge for a film during production but opt for profit-sharing after the release. Based on the collections, they charge a significant portion of the film’s profits. In most cases, it aligns with the film’s success and box office numbers.
Most producers are okay with this setup as it is the safest option. For producers, a considerable portion of the film budget goes for remunerations and often forces them to compromise on production. With this option, they focus on production, and remuneration is decided according to its performance at the box office.
