Kamal Haasan on Marriage: ‘I’m Not Lord Ram I’m Like His Father’

Kamal Haasan on Marriage: Veteran actor Kamal Haasan, joined by Trisha Krishnan and Silambarasan (Simbu), is in the middle of film promotional rounds with his new film Thug Life. At one of the promotion sessions, when someone asked him to share his take on marriage, he shared quite candidly about his relationship life and commitment point of view.

Kamal Haasan on Marriage

When asked about his position on marriage, Trisha Krishnan responded diplomatically by stating: “I am not sure about marriage. If it happens, it doesn’t matter. If it doesn’t, it doesn’t matter.” But Kamal Haasan came up with a philosophical anecdote.

He remembered a 10-15 year old conversation he had with MP John Brittas, in which Brittas had teased him about having a connection with a Brahmin family. To this, Kamal Haasan responded jokingly: “He told me I did not live like Rama. I am not worshipping Bhagwan because King Dasharatha is my father, so I have a wife.” His comment referred to his personal view on marriage and choice, which was representative of his independent mindset in relations.

Kamal Haasan’s Relationship History

Kamal Haasan’s personal life has often been a topic of discussion, given his two marriages and subsequent relationships. In 1978, he married dancer Vani Ganapathi, but they parted ways after ten years. He subsequently dated actress Sarika, and the couple had their first daughter, Shruti Haasan, in 1986. Kamal Haasan married Sarika officially in 1988, and their second daughter, Akshara Haasan, was born in 1991. Kamal Haasan and Sarika divorced in 2004, having petitioned for separation in 2002. Between 2005 and 2016, he was dating actress Gautami.
