Speaking at World Audio Visual and Entertainment Summit (WAVES) 2025 in Mumbai, noted director SS Rajamouli speaks at WAVES about India’s unique storyline heritage. Speaking on May 1, he identified the nation’s rich storytelling culture due to its multilingualism, ancient literature, and folk arts.
Rajamouli had previously explained how India is a nation of storytelling as there have been centuries, billions of stories borrowed from the Puranas and the Itihasas. He had explained how story-telling was in the blood of the nation, each language having centuries of history and hundreds of folk arts filling an infinite cauldron of stories. “Hundreds into billions—our stories are infinite,” he had asserted.
With fascination over India’s rich lore tradition, Rajamouli pointed out that the nation as yet receives a lesser international fanfare compared to other nations like the USA, South Korea, and China. Despite all this being true, he was optimistic about the future of India and stated that the nation just needs to find a proper starting point so it can ride on its storytelling capability. “India has no equivalent in the world when it comes to possessing this rich, vibrant culture of storytelling,” he said, and went on to further add that he is sure WAVES is a stepping stone to take Indian media and entertainment to another stratosphere.
