IPL Cancelled: Preity Zinta, actress and co-owner of Punjab Kings, posted a message on social media about the unexpected incident during Thursday’s IPL match between Delhi Capitals and Punjab Kings. Security concerns forced officials to call off the game halfway through 10.1 overs at the Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association (HPCA) Stadium in Dharamshala. In her Instagram post, Preity praised the authorities and thanked fans for staying calm.
Preity Zinta’s Response to IPL Cancellation:
In her recent Instagram post, she wrote, “Finally back home after a crazy last few days. A heartfelt thank you to Indian Railways & our Railway minister Mr. Ashwini Vaishnaw, for helping both IPL teams and all officials & families leave Dharamshala in a safe, swift & comfortable way. A big thank you to @JayShah, Mr Arun Dhumal, BCCI & our CEO, Mr Satish Menon & the Operations team of @PunjabKingsIPL for helping coordinate the evacuation of our stadium in Dharamshala safely & in an orderly manner. Everything was handled so well.”
She continued, “Finally, to everyone at the Dharamshala stadium, thank you, thank you, thank you for staying calm and avoiding any stampede. You all are absolute rock stars. I’m sorry I was a bit curt and refused pictures, but ensuring everyone’s safety was my duty and responsibility. Thank you for making that possible. Love you all.”
Air Sirens in Multiple Cities:
Air raid alerts in nearby cities like Jammu and Pathankot forced officials to call off the game. The broadcast crews, players, and match officials traveled safely to Delhi by train. After the cancellation announcement, stadium footage showed Preity Zinta addressing the crowd and asking them to leave. As border tensions between India and Pakistan escalated, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) suspended the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) for one week.
