Industry sources estimate the total production budget of Coolie at Rs 350 crore. This figure includes the hefty salaries of the lead actor and the director. Rajinikanth received an upfront payment of Rs 150 crore for his role, marking one of the highest remunerations for an Indian actor. Lokesh Kanagaraj, the director, earned Rs 50 crore, setting a new record for filmmakers.
The remaining Rs 150 crore covers the rest of the production, including set design, special effects, and fees for the supporting cast. The film features actors like Nagarjuna, Aamir Khan, Upendra and Pooja Hegde.
The producers allocated an additional Rs 25 crore for print and publicity, pushing the total budget to Rs 375 crore. They have already started recovering a major part of their investment. The film earned Rs 130 crore from digital streaming rights, Rs 90 crore from satellite rights, and Rs 20 crore from music rights.
With a total non-theatrical recovery of Rs 240 crore, the producers now need to earn only Rs 135 crore from box office collections. This strong pre-release performance turns Coolie into a low-risk venture.
The movie will release in Tamil, Telugu, Hindi, and other Indian languages. Backed by a star-studded cast and a powerful director Coolie aims to become one of the biggest blockbusters of 2025.
