RCB’s Fourth IPL Final: Will History Repeat Itself in 2025?

Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) have again made it to the IPL final, RCB’s Fourth IPL in the tournament’s history. Despite having good performances year in and year out, the team has never been able to lay their hands on the coveted title.

RCB’s Fourth IPL Final

RCB has got their place in the final match after a dominant 8-wicket win against Punjab Kings in Qualifier 1. Their bowlers played an incredible role, keeping Punjab to just 101 runs off 14.1 overs, with remarkable performances from Josh Hazlewood, Suyash Sharma, and Yash Dayal. During the chase, Phil Salt’s scintillating 56 off 27 balls made things too simple, which paved the way for RCB to reach the final.

RCB’s Past Final Showings
RCB have previously made the IPL final three times:

2009 – Lost to Deccan Chargers

2011 – Lost to Chennai Super Kings

2016 – Lost to Sunrisers Hyderabad

Despite having the likes of Virat Kohli, AB de Villiers, and Chris Gayle, RCB have been unable to cross the final hurdle. Their 2016 final loss was particularly heartbreaking, as they were defeated by a mere eight runs.

Can RCB Finally Win the IPL?
RCB’s new team has been amazingly consistent in IPL 2025. Their bowling lineup, led by Hazlewood and Bhuvneshwar Kumar, has played a crucial role. Their batting lineup, featuring Virat Kohli, Rajat Patidar, and Phil Salt, has performed under pressure. Unlike in the previous seasons, RCB appear more even-tempered and well-balanced, making them leading championship contenders.

Challenges Ahead
Aside from their good form, RCB have a few issues to deal with:

Dealing with pressure in the final – The past has seen RCB fail in crucial matches.
Playing against an able team – RCB’s eventual rival would be Punjab Kings, Gujarat Titans, or Mumbai Indians, all boasting a strong team.

Busting the mental hurdle – The weight of past defeats might take its toll on their performance in the final.
