Secunderabad Station Gets AI Cameras to Catch Thieves

Secunderabad Station Gets AI Cameras to Catch Thieves

Secunderabad Station: The increase in thefts at railway stations is worrying. Thieves are committing thefts with a very clever and well-planned plan. They are targeting these thefts at crowded stations, when passengers are tired or careless. Thiefs are stealing purses and mobile phones in the hustle and bustle of boarding or alighting from the train. They are stealing luggage and valuables of passengers at night while they are sleeping. Also are committing thefts by pretending to talk to passengers. Also they are committing thefts by hiding their eyes from the CCTV cameras. However, from now on, thieves will not get away with anything. Thieves will be caught with AI technology at railway stations.

The Railways will install state-of-the-art ‘facial recognition cameras’ at the Secunderabad railway station to check criminals. Secunderabad is one of the seven railway stations in the country selected under the pilot project. This advanced surveillance system will also be available at the Secunderabad station, which is currently undergoing modernization work at a cost of Rs 720 crore. The movement of criminals is very crucial in the investigation of crimes. If the perpetrators of crimes or those with a criminal history try to escape through railway stations, these cameras will be very useful in identifying and catching them. During the recent Kumbh Mela, several suspects were identified and arrested using such cameras.

The Railways has already built a Central Command Control Center (C4) in Delhi at a cost of Rs 18 crore to store the database required for this system. The images of suspects and criminals are stored in this database. These AI (Artificial Intelligence)-based cameras identify criminals who come within their range based on their facial expressions and immediately send information to the nearest police. This system, which was piloted at the Bengaluru railway station, has caught 47 suspects in just 90 days. This system is so effective that it can detect and catch criminals even if they are wearing masks. Along with Secunderabad, this system will also be installed at Howrah, Sealdah, Delhi, Mumbai, Dhanapur and Chennai railway stations.

It is expected that this cutting-edge technology will significantly increase the security of passengers at the Secunderabad railway station. Officials say that it will help curb theft at railway stations.
