Pune Law Student Arrested: Sharmishtha Panoli, a Pune law student is arrested now for her absconding comments which hurt the religious sentiments of a community. FIR was lodged against Sharmishta Panoli on May 15 by Kolkata-based Rashidi Foundation for ‘making derogatory comments’ on Prophet Muhammad.
A 22-year-old law student from Pune- Sharmistha Panoli- was arrested by Kolkata Police in Gurugram for allegedly making scathing comments on social media linked to Operation Sindoor. Sharmistha Panoli posted a video on Instagram containing “degrading and impolite” remarks sought at a particular religious community, police said.
The case started with, Sharmishta’s Instagram post where in which she was seen making disrespectful comments on Islam community. The now deleted video, contained remarks linked to Operation Sindoor.
A First Information Report (FIR) against Panoli was filed under sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita related to promoting enmity, intentionally insulting others with the aim of provoking a breach of peace, outraging religious feelings, and making statements that incite public mischief. The FIR was lodged at the Garden Reach Police Station on May 15.
Following the hate she received on social media, Sharmishta posted an apology on her official X account.
The apology went on like this:
‘I do hereby tender my UNCONDITIONAL APOLOGY whatever was put are my personal feelings and i never intentionally wanted to hurt anybody so if anybody is hurt I’m sorry for the same. I expect co-operation and understanding. Henceforth, i will be cautious in my public post. Again please accept my apologies.’
