11 Years of Modi as PM

11 Years of Modi as PM

11 Years of Modi as PM: With Prime Minister Narendra Modi marking 11 years in office (2014–2025). India has transformed beyond recognition politically, socially, and economically. Modi’s tenure has been a bid at game-changing reforms, world diplomacy, and polarizing decisions that have rewritten the nation’s script.

The Reformer: Daring Steps, Firm Signals

Modi’s early years were marked by flagship initiatives like Swachh Bharat Abhiyan. A nationwide cleanliness drive, and Jan Dhan Yojana, pushing financial inclusion. The controversial but ambitious Demonetisation in 2016 aimed to curb black money and counterfeit currency, though its economic effectiveness remains debated.

The implementation of the Goods and Services Tax (GST) unified India’s indirect tax system, streamlining business but also creating initial disruptions for small enterprises.

The Diplomat: India on the Global Stage

Modi’s foreign policy has been one of high visibility. He visited over 65 countries, strengthening strategic alliances and showcasing India’s global aspirations. Under his leadership, India assumed a more assertive stance in international forums and played key roles in QUAD, BRICS, and G20 summits.

The Challenges: Unemployment & Economic Distress

Despite infrastructural growth and technological progress, joblessness was a persistent affliction. The youth were mostly in an employment market incapable of matching supply with demand. Economists argue that economic inequality grew and MSMEs were subjected to mounting pressures after GST and lockdowns due to the pandemic.

The Controversies: Religion, Bigotry, and Governance Style

Modi’s tenure also saw rising religious polarization, with incidents like the CAA-NRC protests and alleged marginalization of minorities drawing global concern. Accusations of majoritarian politics, suppression of dissent, and curbed press freedom emerged as regular criticisms.

Interestingly, despite giving numerous interviews, Modi has never held a single open press conference, a style that has irked many journalists and political analysts.

The Legacy: Polarizing but Powerful

Modi remains one of the most influential and popular leaders in recent Indian history. His supporters hail him as a visionary who has given India’s image a boost on the global stage; others refer to him as an authoritarian leader.
