What is Tatkal Passport?

Who is eligible?

The majority of Indian citizens can apply under Tatkal. There are some requirements, however:


The applicant should not have a criminal record or pending legal cases.

The address entered should be checkable.

The following are also eligible: minors, government servants, and senior citizens.

Post-police verification may be required in some cases.

Documents Needed

You must carry the following to apply for a Tatkal passport:

Filled passport application form.

Document of residence (Aadhaar, Voter ID, Electricity Bill, etc.).

Document of date of birth (Birth Certificate, School Leaving Certificate).

Verification Certificate (Annexure F) from a Gazetted Officer or Notary Affidavit (Annexure I).

Note: Annexure F has to be on official letterhead and is required for faster processing.

How to Apply

Register Online: Visit passportindia.gov.in and register yourself.

Fill and Submit Application: Select the “Tatkal” option while submitting the form.

Make Payment: Pay the Tatkal fee online. For adults, it’s ₹3,500 (36-page booklet).

Book an Appointment: Choose your nearest Passport Seva Kendra.

Visit the PSK: Bring all original documents for authentication.

Police Verification Process

In most instances, the passport is granted first, followed by post-police verification. If discrepancies are noticed during the process, it may impact the validity of the passport.
