Air India Under Scanner: DGCA Orders Checks on All Outbound Flights

Air India: Everyone is aware of the Ahmedabad plane crash. The plane crashed moments after takeoff, killing 265 people. With this, the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has issued key orders, giving priority to passenger safety. It has ordered stricter safety checks to be carried out on Air India’s Boeing 787 Dreamliner aircraft powered by General Electric (GE) engines. However, it has also announced that this will be implemented from June 15.

Air India flight AI-171, which was flying to London, crashed in Ahmedabad shortly after takeoff. In this tragic accident, 241 passengers on board the plane and 25 people on the ground lost their lives. This heartbreaking incident has shocked the entire country. However, Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited the scene immediately after the accident. He also held a review meeting. They want an immediate investigation into the plane crash to identify the causes and those responsible. On the other hand, authorities have seized the black box that records data from the plane as part of the investigation.

However, this black box will be crucial in finding the cause of the accident. Meanwhile, Air India CEO and MD Campbell Wilson also visited the accident site and reviewed the situation. In this context, the DGCA has ordered a comprehensive inspection of all Boeing 787-8 and 787-9 Dreamliners powered by GE GNX engines of Air India . According to these new rules, every flight departing from India will be inspected once from the night of June 15. This will be mandatory.

In particular, many aspects such as fuel parameter monitoring, cabin air compressor, related systems, electronic engine control-system testing, engine fuel-driven actuator operational test, oil system check will be closely examined. In addition, the directives also include hydraulic system serviceability check, review of takeoff parameters, introduction of ‘flight control inspection’ in transit inspection, power assurance checks within two weeks, and resolution of recurring technical faults (snags) in B787-8/9 aircraft in the last 15 days as soon as possible. It has been clarified to Air India that the reports of these inspections should be submitted to the DGCA from time to time.
