Pahalgam Attack: Jammu & Kashmir Reopens Tourist Spots

Pahalgam Attack: Tourist destinations in Jammu and Kashmir, which were closed after the terror attack in Pahalgam on April 22, are reopening. 16 tourist destinations are being reopened. Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha announced that 8 tourist destinations each in the Kashmir Valley and Jammu region will be opened. Tourists will be allowed to enter from June 17.


Betaab Valley, made famous by the 1983 Bollywood film Betaab, is one of the tourist destinations that will reopen after a break. It is a favorite place for trekkers and photographers alike. The famous Mughal-style gardens of Verinag, Kokernag and Achabal in Anantnag will also be open. Badamwari Garden, Duck Park and Taqdeer Park near Hazratbal Shrine in Srinagar will also be open.

Jammu & Kashmir Reopens Tourist Spots
Kathua’s Sartal, Dhagar, Devipindi, Ziyad Baba, Sula Park, the alpine meadows of Jai Valley and the tranquil hill village of Pancheri in Udhampur are also set to welcome tourists again. The Amarnath Yatra, scheduled to be held from July 3 to August 9, is a crucial one for Jammu and Kashmir. Every year, thousands of pilgrims visit Kashmir to participate in the Amarnath Yatra. After meeting tour operators, hotel associations and elected representatives in Pahalgam, Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha assured that more places will gradually reopen. A committee comprising divisional commissioners and senior police officers has also been formed to oversee the process in collaboration with the tourism department.
