Actor Dhanush seems taken aback when invited to perform Kolaveri Di and share the song’s creation narrative at a recent function.

Even though the movie 3’s Why This Kolaveri Di? (The Soup of Love) went viral twelve years ago, Dhanush is still frequently questioned about it. When asked about the song at an event, the actor responded that it “haunts him.”

Reason Behind Dhanush Making ‘Kolaveri Di’ Song

At the ceremony, Dhanush was invited to perform Kolaveri Di and explain the song’s origins. He looked surprised to be asked about it, saying, “Kolaveri Di…that song still continues to haunt me,” and laughing when asked to elaborate further.

Additionally, he disclosed that the song was composed “so late in the night” that by the following morning, they had completely forgotten about it. “ We found an icon on the computer screen saying Kolaveri Di. We opened it and then it hit us, oh, we made this. We made it and forgot about it. We found it funny, but we never thought it would be such a big sensation. These things you can’t plan it. God should consider you worthy.”

A member of the audience complimented Dhanush on his performance, and he reluctantly performed a few lines before leaving the stage.

Why This Kolaveri Di? is a peculiar Tanglish song with music by Anirudh Ravichander and words and vocals by Dhanush. When it was first released, the song went viral on the internet throughout Asia and was the most searched YouTube video in India.

It was created for Aishwarya Rajinikanth’s 3 (directed by his ex-wife), which starred Dhanush and Shruti Haasan in the lead parts. Despite the serious subject matter of the movie, the humorous song about heartbreak gained a lot of popularity very fast.

Dhanush last appeared in the films Captain Miller and Raayan, the latter of which he directed. In addition to starring, producing, and directing Idly Kadai, he will soon be seen in Sekhar Kammula’s Kubera.
