IRCTC New Rule: Indian Railways has come up with a new amendment regarding waiting list tickets. The Railways is going to do away with the 2013 waiting list ticket limit. With this, only 25% of the total number of berths in each category will be allowed as waiting list tickets. The Railways has come to such a decision to streamline the ticketing system and control congestion.
This rule will be applicable to all classes like sleeper, AC 3-tier, AC 2-tier, AC first class and chair car. Till now, there was no fixed limit for the waiting list system. Usually, waiting list tickets were given up to 300 in AC coaches and up to 400 in sleeper coaches. This has now been made 25% in each coach. For example, if 400 berths are available for booking, the waiting list will be limited to 100. The decision was based on the observation that 20 – 25% of the waiting lists in each category are confirmed.
For the railways, it has been a long-standing problem that passengers who do not have confirmed tickets are boarding reserved coaches during peak seasons. From now on, if you try to book a ticket after the specified limit, it will be shown as ‘regret’.
With this, passengers will have to rely on Tatkal reservation or general coach. This restriction will not apply to special concessional quotas for differently-abled people, soldiers and others. The main objective behind the new reform is to remove the discrepancy between confirmed bookings and the number of passengers boarding trains.
