Speaking to the media yesterday, President Donald Trump finally opened up about the real reason behind his split with Elon Musk. The two had worked closely together until May 2025, when Musk abruptly exited his role as a senior advisor.
Trump described Musk as “a smart guy” but admitted things soured over a key disagreement.
“I think Elon is a wonderful guy,” Trump said. “But he got a little bit upset, and that was not appropriate.”
He explained that Musk’s frustration boiled over due to changes in the electric vehicle mandate, a key component of Trump’s sweeping new tax bill.

The bill proposed major tax cuts, but it also reduced federal support for electric vehicles. For Musk, it was personal and financial.

Trump responded calmly, but firmly. He told Fox News, “Elon’s a smart guy. But he got upset. And that wasn’t appropriate.”
What followed was a digital feud. Musk hinted at Trump’s ties to the Epstein files. Though he deleted the post, the damage was done. Their once close bond vanished. Musk left his advisory role. Trump moved on without him.
The bill passed the Senate 51–49. Despite Musk’s warnings, Trump celebrated. But behind closed doors, the feud deepened.
