Warren Buffett just made another bold donation. Recently, he revealed he is giving $6 billion worth of Berkshire Hathaway stock to five charitable foundations. This brings his total lifetime donations to about $60 billion.
The money will be split across five foundations. But this is not a one-time move. It is part of Buffett’s long-term plan to give away nearly all of his $145 billion fortune.
Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation Trust
This foundation received the biggest share 9.4 million Class B Berkshire Hathaway shares. It fights poverty, disease, and inequality worldwide. It funds vaccines, education, clean water, and global health programs, especially in developing countries.
Buffett donated 943,384 shares to this foundation, named after his late wife. It focuses on women’s health, access to education, and reproductive rights. It is one of the largest funders of reproductive healthcare in the U.S.
2. Sherwood Foundation
This foundation, led by Buffett’s daughter Susan, received 660,366 shares. It supports public education, social justice, and anti-poverty programs, mainly in Nebraska. It works to improve lives in underserved communities.
Run by Buffett’s son Howard, this foundation also received 660,366 shares. It funds global food security, agriculture, and conflict resolution. It helps farmers in poor regions and supports peace-building in unstable areas.
Co-founded by Buffett’s son Peter and daughter-in-law Jennifer, the NoVo Foundation got 660,366 shares. It focuses on gender equality, indigenous rights, and social justice. It supports grassroots groups that fight inequality and violence.
Berkshire Hathaway’s stock is performing well. Class B shares are valued at $485.68 and have gained 19.1% over the past year. Buffett’s disciplined investment style keeps his fortune growing even as he gives it away.
He once said, “Nothing extraordinary has occurred at Berkshire.” He credited “a long runway, simple decisions, and the American tailwind” for his wealth.

Buffett has pledged to give away 99% of his wealth. His will ensures that his fortune will serve the public good. His children will oversee future donations after his death. For now, Buffett continues to shape the future not through spending, but through giving.
