Gill calmly gave his instructions from slip. But Jadeja pushed back. He questioned the move, saying the fielder was “of no use there.” Gill didn’t argue. He simply turned and walked back, quiet and composed.
The clip likely came during the Ben Stokes–Jamie Smith partnership, a tense period when England still had hopes. Gill asked Jadeja, “Jaddu bhai, usko bhi upar lelo yaar. Marne do ek aage badke.”
Jadeja responded, “Usko udhar kuch kaam nahi hai… pakadne wala toh chaiye.” Translation? He didn’t think the fielder would serve any purpose there. Jadeja even offered a compromise, saying the fielder could be placed there but only with someone behind to catch.
Clips of stump mic moments have become popular this series. Most are fun or cheeky. But this one felt different. Fans debated whether it was just on-field instinct or a sign of deeper issues.
The visuals showed no drama. But the refusal stood out, especially in a team known for its unity and communication.

Gill led from the front with 269 and 161, while Akash Deep took a stunning 10 wickets in the match.
