Hyderabad Metro Phase 2: Modernisation efforts on the Hyderabad public transport system are underway for the Phase 2 expansion of the Hyderabad Metro Rail Project. Over 76 kilometers of new track are being swiftly laid to connect the extreme corners of the city, which include Rajiv Gandhi International Airport, IT corridors, and the culturally rich Old City. Early construction will begin in 2025, so Phase 2 promises seamless, greener, and inclusive urban mobility.
Various five new corridors are under construction, all aimed at better access and reduction of travel time:
Nagole-Shamshabad Airport (36.8 km): A mix of elevated and underground tracks giving a direct airport-to-city link.
Raidurg-Kokapet (11.6 km): Connects with emerging IT zones like Neopolis thereby enhancing reach from the financial district of the city.
MGBS-Chandrayangutta (7.5 km): A long-awaited corridor across the Old City with a visitation spirit to cultural and heritage concerns.
Miyapur-Patancheru (13.4 km): Extending the Red Line to serve ever-evolving residential and industrial areas in the west.
LB Nagar-Hayathnagar (7.1 km): Extending further metro services toward the southeastern edge of the city.
Approaching one million daily commuters are expected to use Phase 2 to escape the ever-congested road traffic. The routes are expected to be integrated smoothly with the existing metro lines for an effective mode of interchange across the city.
Budget and Funding
The anticipated value for Phase 2 is ₹24,269 crore, with costs shared by the Government of Telangana, Government of India, and international funding institutions. Therefore this could potentially be one of the cheapest extensions of a metro in India.
Special considerations are being made in sensitive areas such as the Old City. So as not to harm heritage structures and minimize displacements. New-age construction techniques and good mechanism of compensations will also be put to play.

Besides being an engineering work, Hyderabad Metro Phase 2 is, therefore, envisaged as a smarter, better-connected version of itself. It will transform travel in Hyderabad when operational, stitching together any distances between new-age hubs and historic neighborhoods with the city.
