How To Stay Safe – Fake Amazon Sites Surge Before Prime day

Fake Sites Flood the Web Ahead of Prime Day

Amazon’s Prime Day sale, set for July 12, has become a major shopping event. But it’s also a goldmine for scammers. According to cybersecurity firm Check Point Research, more than 1,230 fake Amazon domains were created in just the first few weeks of June. These sites are designed to look like Amazon and trick users into revealing sensitive personal and financial information.

Phishing Emails Are Making It Worse

Scammers are using emails that mimic Amazon customer support. Subject lines like “Refund error” or “Account suspended” create panic. These emails urge users to click on links that seem helpful such as “Fix account issue” or “Verify your address.” But those links lead to fake login pages that harvest usernames, passwords, and card details.

What Do Fake Sites Look Like?

Fake Amazon websites often have domain names that appear odd or off-brand. You may see unfamiliar extensions like “.top”, “.online”, or “.store”. Some use misspellings, extra characters, or hyphens for example, amaz0n-dealz.top. They may even show a padlock icon, but that doesn’t mean they’re safe.

How to Shop Safely on Prime Day

To stay safe, start by using the official Amazon app or typing the web address directly into your browser. Don’t trust links from emails or messages. Even if they look real, they could lead to phishing pages.

Turn on two-factor authentication to protect your account, and always check the URL before entering any personal info. If a deal seems unusually generous like 80% off on a new phone chances are, it’s a scam.

Your Best Deal? Staying Protected

Scammers feed on urgency and excitement. And Prime Day offers both. So before you click “Buy Now,” take a moment to verify the source. This year, your smartest Prime Day move might be keeping your data safe and your wallet secure.
