Green Card Holders Beware: One Crime Could Cost You Everything

Green Card Holders Beware: One Crime Could Cost You Everything

New Warning from U.S. Immigration

The U.S. government has issued a clear warning to green card holders. Break the law even once and you could lose your residency. The U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) announced that permanent residents involved in crimes, terrorism, or fraud face immediate consequences.

They are not bluffing. The agency is already revoking visas and green cards of individuals who violate the rules.

Criminal Past? Expect Trouble at Airports

Customs and Border Protection (CBP) has ramped up inspections. Green card holders with any criminal history, including expunged or minor offenses, are now flagged. Officers are detaining some travelers the moment they land. Others are subjected to secondary screening, questioning, or even asked to surrender their green card rights on the spot.

Targeting Elderly Indian Travelers

Many cases involve elderly Indians who travel back and forth between the U.S. and India. CBP agents have reportedly pressured them into signing Form I-407, a document that gives up U.S. permanent residency.

Legal experts warn: Do not sign anything under pressure. Only an immigration judge can legally revoke your green card.

How to Stay Safe

  • If you are a green card holder, be proactive:
  • Avoid legal trouble. Even small infractions carry risks.
  • Consult an immigration lawyer if you’ve ever been arrested.
  • Prepare documents showing strong U.S. ties: tax returns, home ownership, employment letters.
  • Do not stay abroad too long. That’s seen as abandoning residency.
  • Never sign I‑407 without legal advice

The Heat Is On

This is not just a policy update. It’s a crackdown. U.S. immigration is watching, and mistakes past or present can now cost you your status, rights, and future. If you hold a green card, stay alert. One wrong move could send you packing.
