Chennai Train Accident: An explosion into flame engulfed a big freight train carrying crude oil in the early hours of Sunday near Thiruvallur, causing pandemonium and extremely severe disruption along one of the busiest Chennai-Arakkonam rail routes. Around 5:00 am during the passing of a freight train transporting 45 tankers of crude oil from Ennore (Chennai) towards Mumbai. The fire broke out at Egattur near Thiruvallur district. As a result of the conflagration, a safety measure was taken by barring all train services in the already affected stretch. Numerous passenger trains have been either canceled or reshaped or short-terminated, creating inconveniences for thousands of passengers.
Restoration is ongoing as railway officials examine how extensive the damage is on the tracks and overhead equipment before operations are resumed. Travel information and train status have been advised to passengers before proceeding to their respective stations.
Fortunately, as of now, no injuries or deaths were reported. Quick action has been taken by railway officials and fire services to contain the fire and prevent spread. The cause of the incident is fully investigated.
