Things to Consider To Apply Jobs at Amazon, Microsoft, and Meta

Jobs at Amazon, Microsoft, and Meta: Many of you may feel that getting a job in a big tech company like Amazon, Microsoft or Meta is very difficult. Especially if you are a newbie. But even if you don’t have much experience, you can easily get jobs at Amazon Microsoft and Meta.  A former software engineer who has worked in all three companies recently shared his experiences. He shared with Business Insider about his personal career journey and what helped him get into it despite not having a technical background.

Even without a traditional computer science background, he says, with the right steps and the right mindset, you can get ahead. He started his college studies in industrial design which had nothing to do with programming. But halfway through, he says, he switched to computer science and started learning coding in third year.

Many of his classmates had learned coding right from their school. He says that he often felt left behind in such a situation and had to figure it all out on his own. Although the early days were tough, he learned some ways to ease into the job in the light of experience. Know about them.

A strong resume opens the first door

The first step, he says, was to rewrite his resume. Initially, only tutoring, working in a restaurant, etc. were on the resume. So, he decided to create a better and original project. Joined an online Unity course with a 3D game. Later added it to his resume.

This project helped him a lot to get selected for JPMorgan Hackathon. After this, got an internship at Amazon. Later in 2019 he became a full-time employee at AWS. He advises not only to write what you have done in the resume, but also to show what you have newly created. Also, don’t ask too many people for feedback on your resume. He also suggests that five to seven comments are sufficient to avoid confusion.

Referrals give you an edge

While working at Microsoft, he found a job opening at Meta through a LinkedIn post. Instead of sending a message to the hiring manager, he researched what the team was doing. It helped to have a 10 minute conversation with a team member. This led to a referral and eventually a job. He said referrals are very powerful for getting a job. If you show interest and do good projects, people are more likely to refer you.

Clarify your thoughts in the interview

In an interview, your thinking skills are as important as your answers. That means finding the answer is not the only thing that matters. The interview board needs to know what your approach is. Even if you can’t completely solve a coding problem, explain your argument clearly. As someone who has interviewed candidates at Amazon and Facebook, he says the ability to explain logic is a big plus point. Clear communication and structured thinking often set them apart, even if they can’t solve the problem.
