Kabir Khan Defends “Sardaar Ji 3” Casting Amid Controversy, Urges Separation of Art and Politics

Kabir Khan Defends “Sardaar Ji 3” Casting Amid Controversy, Urges Separation of Art and Politics

Filmmaker Kabir Khan has defended Sardaar Ji 3 amid the controversy over its casting of Pakistani actress Hania Aamir. The film, starring Diljit Dosanjh, sparked intense debate after the tragic Pahalgam terror attack in April 2025. Despite the backlash, Khan supported the film’s makers. He criticized the unfairness of blaming the casting decision for the controversy.

Kabir Khan’s Support for Hania Aamir’s Casting

In an interview with a media house, Kabir Khan stated that the casting of Hania Aamir in Sardaar Ji 3 happened well before the events in Pahalgam. The film, which blends comedy and horror, was shot in early 2025, and the casting decision was made long before tensions escalated. Kabir emphasized that films should not be caught up in politics, and he firmly believes that art should remain free of political influence.

“It’s unfair to target a film like this,” Kabir explained. “The film had already been shot, and the decision to cast Hania Aamir was made before the situation worsened. Art and politics should not mix.”

The Sardaar Ji 3 Controversy and International Success

After the film’s trailer dropped, Sardaar Ji 3 faced backlash, particularly over Hania Aamir’s inclusion in the cast. Following the Pahalgam terror attack, the film’s producers decided not to release it in India, a decision that has sparked widespread debate. However, the film was released globally on June 27, and despite its absence in India, it has found success in international markets, grossing around Rs 55 crore by its third weekend. Canada and Pakistan have emerged as key markets for the film.

Diljit Dosanjh, speaking to BBC Asian Network, acknowledged the financial loss of skipping India but stood by the decision. He clarified that the film had already been completed before the regional tensions escalated.
