TN Heavy Rains in 10 Districts; Orange Alert Issued

Tamilnadu Weather: During the 24 hours up to 8:00 am yesterday, considerable rainfall was received in many districts of Tamil Nadu. The maximum rainfall of 9 cm was reported in the Madhurantakam Taluk Office premises in Chengalpattu district. The other considerable rainfall recordings are 7 cm each in Senchi in Villupuram district and Tiruttani in Tiruvallur district. Gummidipoondi and Poondi in Tiruvallur, Mamallapuram in Chengalpattu, Kaveripakkam in Ranipet, and Naduwattam in Nilgiris district received approximately 5 cm rainfall each.

Tamilnadu Weather Systems Forcing Rainfall

Two main weather systems responsible for the rainfalls have been identified by meteorologists. There is an upper-level circulation dominating the southern states, and a lower-level circulation dominating South Andhra Pradesh and surrounding areas. These systems together are likely to cause moderate rains with thunder, lightning, and gusty winds in the Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Karaikal areas today and tomorrow.

Continued Moderate to Heavy Rains Expected

The weather forecast states that moderate showers will continue until the 24th of this month. But extremely heavy rain is expected in the hill tracts of Coimbatore and Nilgiris districts today and tomorrow, and the authorities have issued an ‘Orange Alert’ for these districts as a precautionary measure.

Districts to Watch: Heavy Rainfall Alerts

A number of districts, such as Theni, Tenkasi, Kanyakumari, Tiruvallur, Ranipet, Vellore, Tiruvannamalai, and Tirunelveli, are also likely to receive heavy rains today. Chennai and the suburbs, on the other hand, are likely to have partly cloudy conditions along with light to moderate rain and scattered thundershowers.

People are urged to remain cautious and take precautions during the current rainy spell.
