A video footage showing Maharashtra Agriculture Minister Manikrao Kokate playing Junglee Rummy on his phone inside the Legislative Assembly has generated widespread criticism towards the Maharashtra agriculture minister. The Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) leader Rohit Pawar shared the video through social media platforms. Opposition parties have launched a strong criticism against this video because it demonstrates democratic disrespect.
The video was uploaded by Rohit Pawar who stated through comments that the NCP under Ajit Pawar follows BJP’s suggestions before taking any decision. The Agriculture Minister appears to lack meaningful work since he played rummy during essential legislative sessions according to Rohit Pawar who pointed out that serious farm problems remain unsolved and farmers die by suicide every day in Maharashtra. The Sinnar Assembly constituency is represented by Manikrao Kokate who belongs to the NCP faction under the leadership of Ajit Pawar.
Sudhir Mungantiwar, BJP leader, stated that the Assembly lacks any legal provisions to discipline ministers who use phones for gaming. “At most, Kokate gets a warning,” he stated. “At that time I advised Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis to establish legislation that would stop these kinds of actions in the Assembly yet he stated it was a Central government responsibility.”
Political figures from various parties presented their disapproval toward the minister’s conduct through subsequent statements. Kokate has demonstrated inappropriate conduct outside official matters according to Kishori Pednekar of Shiv Sena (UBT). According to her he shows contempt toward democratic institutions.
The Assembly procedure loses its dignity through the actions of members who displayed poor behavior according to Pednekar who also noted legislators used to command respect when they held their positions with proper conduct.
Jitendra Awhad who represents the NCP (SP) faces harsh criticism toward Kokate. He questioned how ministers within the state legislature can participate in rummy games. The Assembly member Awhad stated Kokate failed to respond to Assembly inquiries while playing an online game which has destroyed multiple Maharashtra families. According to Awhad ministers like Kokate lack both honor and respect when it comes to legislative members. The Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar received an inquiry regarding this reaction from Awhad.
The Karnataka Assembly implemented a punishment system which required lawmakers to stay home after authorities discovered their phone usage. Ministers who truly care about farmers’ issues would not demonstrate such reckless behavior during legislative sessions. The state Assembly functions as a “temple of democracy” according to him while he strongly condemned ministers for their disrespectful behavior toward this institution.
The incident between Sanjay Raut from Shiv Sena (UBT) and the Union Home Minister Amit Shah carries significant political weight due to Shah’s alleged desire to remove four ministers or MLAs including Raut.
The Assembly member Manikrao Kokate’s online rummy game during the session has triggered widespread political condemnation throughout Maharashtra.

The opposition leaders expressed their disapproval of his behavior because it showed disrespect not only to the Assembly chamber but also to the people of Maharashtra particularly the farmers who are experiencing difficulties. Manikrao Kokate will not receive any punishment from this incident but some politicians believe this matter paints a negative image of the government’s dedication to solving critical issues. The dispute will persist until some politicians determine how their party leaders will respond to this matter.
