The GHMC Commissioner, R. V. Karzhan, plans to introduce automatic reminders on UPI apps (PhonePe, Google Pay, and others) to simplify property-tax payments. Homeowners just need to enter their property number and can pay tax directly through these platforms. The system will launch soon and aims to reduce confusion around UPI usage.
Even though GHMC already allows online payments via its website and app, many taxpayers struggle with logging in or navigating the site to complete UPI transactions. Others still visit customer-service centers out of caution. The upcoming reminder feature will mimic mobile recharge or bill payment alerts, sending prompts and direct links for UPI-based property-tax payments.
GHMC began sending mobile SMS with payment links to eight lakh property owners in 2024, which significantly improved compliance. The text messages included clickable links that automatically displayed tax details and allowed instant payments
In 2025, GHMC made all property-tax services available online such as self-assessment, revision, owner-name corrections, and vacancy remission to reduce physical visits and support digital transformation
GHMC partnered with Paytm to deploy over 400 card machines across collection centers and for door-to-door tax collection. These devices accept credit and debit cards and QR-based UPI payments, integrated with the GHMC app for instant payment and receipt generation. GHMC collects ₹5–7 crore monthly on average, and this peaks to ₹22 crore during mid-year and financial-year-end periods.

GHMC will also launch a multilingual WhatsApp Business platform to deliver bills, notices, and payment links. Citizens can receive alerts, pay via UPI, cards or net banking, and receive real-time confirmation through WhatsApp. This service aims to operate round the clock and improve accessibility
