Lionel Messi is likely to play a seven-a-side cricket match at Mumbai’s Wankhede Stadium on December 14. The match could see Messi share the field with cricket legends like MS Dhoni, Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, and Sachin Tendulkar. Organisers are currently working to finalise logistics for the high-profile event.
A leading event agency has requested the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) to reserve the ground for the day. The match will be part of Messi’s upcoming promotional tour in India.
“Messi will be at Wankhede Stadium on December 14. He is likely to play a cricket match too, with former and current cricketers. The organisers will announce the full schedule once everything is finalised,” an MCA official told The Indian Express.
Messi’s visit is expected to span from December 13 to 15, with stops in Mumbai, New Delhi, and Kolkata. This will mark his second visit to India, following his 2011 appearance for an international friendly at Salt Lake Stadium in Kolkata.
The current tour is part of a promotional campaign, not a competitive football fixture. Messi, who now plays for Inter Miami in the Major League Soccer (MLS), continues to attract global attention. The Argentine captain led his country to victory in the FIFA World Cup 2022 and may appear in his final World Cup in 2026.

Earlier this year, Kerala Sports Minister V Abdurahiman announced a potential tour by the Argentina national football team in October. The government had reached an agreement with the Argentina Football Association (AFA) to host two matches in Kerala. However, that plan is currently on hold.
With the December visit now in focus, all eyes are on the Wankhede Stadium, where football meets cricket in a once-in-a-lifetime crossover event.
