Prajwal Revanna Gets Life Sentence: In a rare and strong ruling, the special court dealing with MPs and MLAs in the capital city, Bengaluru, sentenced the erstwhile JD(S) MP for life to be removed until death for the case of his raping a 47-year-old woman. The verdict now has all the eyebrows raised in the country because of the serious crime and also for being a message to hold the politically privileged accountable.
Revanna now considered a grandson of former Prime Minister H.D. Deve Gowda, was found guilty of repeated sexual assault with clear misuse of authority and trust. The incident turned ugly with more chilling events when an obscene video purportedly belonging to the accused surfaced. Which was instrumental in sparking public outcry and litigation.
A saree recovered from Revanna’s farmhouse was critical evidence against him. What it seemed to be an ordinary saree turned out to be strong forensic evidence that linked him directly to the crime committed. Revanna made that judgment entailing him being sentenced to life imprisonment. Imposed a fine of ₹10 lakh. Out of which, the amount of ₹7 lakh will be set aside for compensation of the victim. Hence, the judgment serves as a word for the strong that such condition would not be for those who think political status protects them from consequences.
