Kamal Haasan Meets PM Modi: The famous actor and politician Kamal Haasan has recently turned to Prime Minister Modi to add momentum to a cause dear to the hearts of Tamilians: getting Tamil civilization and language recognized and celebrated worldwide. Haasan, one of the treasured artists in the Tamil-speaking world, went on to mention pertinent issues during this audience with the Prime Minister.
At the top of Kamal Haasan’s list was the demand for the immediate official admission of Keeladi antiquity. Keeladi excavation, located near Sivaganga in Tamil Nadu, included artifacts and structures that could be older than 2,000 years. The findings have challenged the mainstream story of how long and sophisticated Indian civilization was.
Haasan earnestly persuaded to the Prime Minister that Keeladi should stand with a proud head at a national and international platform. For him, the antiquity of Keeladi is not just an academic subject, but a symbolization of the deep roots, thick intellectual richness of Tamil culture.
Other than that of Keeladi, Haasan also put forth a highly emotional request for assistance for glorifying Tamil civilization and for the timeless glory of Tamil as a language. He pointed out that the Tamils have always cherished their linguistic and cultural diaspora, so it is time for the world to witness it as well.

“I told the Prime Minister that various Tamils voice the thousand tones of Tamil and pride in Tamil civilization to the world, and I asked him to support all those activities,” said Haasan post-mortem of the assembly.
The meeting does not only reflect Kamal’s cultural passion but also he is seen involved politically. In promoting Tamil heritage at that level, Haasan continues to effect the twin efforts for art, politics, and cultural preservation-many resonating with it from Tamil Nadu and beyond.
