In August 2025, banks across India will observe several holidays as designated by the Reserve Bank of India (RBI). These holidays align with both national and regional festivals, impacting the operations of scheduled and non-scheduled banks.

Banks Closed Tomorrow on August 9:

One of the key holidays is on August 9, when Raksha Bandhan and Jhulan Purnima are celebrated. Raksha Bandhan, a Hindu festival honoring the bond between siblings, will see bank closures in cities such as Ahmedabad, Bhopal, Jaipur, Lucknow, and Shimla. It coincides with Jhulan Purnima, a festival associated with Lord Krishna, particularly in the Vaishnavite tradition.

The RBI has declared a total of nine holidays for the month of August. Other important holidays include Independence Day on August 15, a nationwide holiday, marking India’s freedom from British rule. This day coincides with the Parsi New Year and Janmashtami, which celebrates the birth of Lord Krishna. While Independence Day is a pan-Indian holiday, Janmashtami is observed in several regions, including cities like Ahmedabad and Bhopal.

On August 13, Patriot’s Day is observed in Manipur, commemorating the sacrifices of Manipuri soldiers in the Anglo-Manipur war of 1891. Additionally, the birthday of Maharaja Bir Bikram of Tripura on August 19 and the Tirubhav Tithi of Srimanta Sankardeva on August 25 will lead to bank holidays in specific regions like Agartala and Guwahati.

Ganesh Chaturthi, one of the most widely celebrated Hindu festivals, will also cause bank closures in cities like Mumbai, Chennai, and Hyderabad on August 27. The second day of Ganesh Chaturthi, along with Nuakhai, will also lead to holidays in Bhubaneshwar and Panaji.

It’s important to stay updated on these dates to manage banking tasks effectively.
