Jasprit Bumrah – Mukesh Ambani: Team India’s star fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah was injured during the recent Test series against England, forcing him to miss the fifth and final match. Now, former captain and ex-chief selector Dilip Vengsarkar has made a strong statement about Bumrah’s participation in the IPL.
Vengsarkar said that if he were the selector, he would have spoken to Mukesh Ambani and convinced him not to field Bumrah in the IPL. According to him, Bumrah’s frequent injuries and his crucial role in big series meant he should have skipped IPL 2025 to stay fit for the England Tests.
The ₹18 Crore Question:
“If I were the Team India selector, I would have explained to Mukesh Ambani the importance of resting Bumrah for the England series. Even if he had to play the IPL, he should have been given fewer matches. Considering the importance of the series, the BCCI and selectors should have stopped him from playing the full season,” Vengsarkar told the media.

‘Don’t Blame Bumrah’:
Vengsarkar also defended the pacer, saying it’s unfair to question his commitment. “Bumrah has undergone back surgery and needs to be handled carefully. He has always given 100 percent for the country,” he said.
Bumrah’s IPL Stats:
Bumrah is among the highest-paid players in the IPL, earning ₹18 crore per season. In IPL 2025, he played only 12 matches but still took 18 wickets at an impressive economy rate of 6.6.
