Another Cloudburst in J&K: Four Dead, Several Injured in Kathua

Kathua Cloudburst: In Ghati village and the surrounding area in the Kathua district of Jammu and Kashmir, flash floods and landslides caused by heavy rains killed around four people and injured five more, according to officials on Sunday. Search and rescue efforts are still on. This occurred just days after at least 60 people were killed in a similar catastrophe in the Kishtwar area that was brought on by a cloudburst.

Early on Sunday morning, a landslide struck a location called Juthana Jod, close to Ghati, burying a family under debris. Around the same time, suspected cloudbursts hit two neighboring places, including the isolated village of Ghati in the district’s Rajbagh area, cutting off access to the settlement due to flash floods.

According to PTI, which cited officials, two people died in a landslide caused by rain in the Janglote area, while five people died in Ghati. At first, four people were listed as dead. Inspector Ajay Singh of the Rajbagh area police station stated, “Advance parties have reached the area. The incidents occurred between 3.30 and 4 am.” Both Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha and Chief Minister Omar Abdullah conveyed their profound sorrow over the deaths. Sinha claimed to have briefed Amit Shah, the Union Home Minister.
