1. Login to the Website

Visit the official Income Tax website at [incometax.gov.in](http://incometax.gov.in). Use your PAN number and password to log in. If you’re a new user, you can easily register by entering your PAN number.

2. Select e-Filing Option

Once logged in, click on the ‘e-File’ option and then choose ‘Income Tax Return’ and ‘File Income Tax Return.’

3. Choose Assessment Year

For the 2024-25 financial year, select the assessment year as 2025-26.

4. Pick the Correct ITR Form

Based on your income, choose the correct form. For salaried individuals, ITR-1 is suitable. Business owners or those with other income sources should choose ITR-2 or ITR-3.

5. Pre-filled Information

The website will auto-fill some of your income and tax details. Carefully review this information, and add any extra income or deductions you need to claim.

6. Tax Calculation

After filling out the form, the site will calculate your tax liability. If you owe tax, you can pay it using the self-assessment option.

7. Verification

Once everything looks good, validate the form and submit it. You will be prompted to verify your return using Aadhaar OTP, net banking, or other methods.

8. Important Deadlines

The last date to file your ITR for the assessment year 2025-26 is September 15, 2025. Make sure to file before the deadline to avoid penalties.
