Who Is B Sudershan Reddy? Former SC Judge For Vice President Polls

B. Sudershan Reddy: On Tuesday, August 19, the opposition’s INDIA alliance announced former Supreme Court justice B. Sudershan Reddy as its joint candidate for vice president. Reddy, who also served as the first Lokayukta of Goa, became the unanimous choice of all bloc parties. During this meeting, Congress party president Mallikarjun Kharge told, ‘All INDIA bloc parties have unanimously decided to field a common candidate. I am delighted that the entire opposition has agreed on a single name. This is a significant democratic accomplishment. We view this vice-presidential election as an ideological struggle, and that is why we have chosen B. Sudershan Reddy as our joint nominee.’

The Election Commission set September 9 for the vice-presidential election after incumbent Jagdeep Dhankhar abruptly resigned last month. Candidates must file nominations by August 21. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) named Maharashtra Governor CP Radhakrishnan as the NDA’s nominee for vice president. Tamil Nadu, Radhakrishnan’s home state, will hold its assembly elections in 2026.
