At a recent book launch event in Mumbai, Bollywood superstar Akshay Kumar shared insights into his personal health routine finishing dinner by 6:30 PM and fasting every Monday. Speaking to a packed audience, the actor explained the simple but powerful philosophy behind his lifestyle.
“Why do we eat at 10 or 11 PM and then go to bed? Our body is resting, our eyes, hands, legs but the stomach is still working,” he said. “If you eat early, your stomach gets time to rest too.”
According to health experts, eating earlier in the evening supports better digestion and improves sleep quality. When food is fully digested before bedtime, the body can focus on repair and rest. Experts agree that the earlier you eat, the better ideally at least two to three hours before sleep.
While Akshay fasts on Mondays from Sunday night until Tuesday morning experts warn against skipping dinner completely. Dinner provides key nutrients like carbohydrates and protein. Skipping it can lead to fatigue, low blood sugar, and poor sleep. Instead, a light dinner is best. Think boiled eggs, soup, sprouts, or fruit. Intermittent fasting may work for some, but it should always be done with professional guidance.

If hunger strikes at night, Akshay sticks to healthy options. His go-to snack? A sprout salad made from moong sprouts, chopped veggies, corn, raw mango, peanuts, and a mix of lemon, herbs, and spices. Sprouts are packed with fibre, vitamins, and antioxidants. But experts caution that raw sprouts may not suit everyone especially children, the elderly, or those with weakened immunity.
Akshay Kumar’s disciplined routine may inspire many, but it’s important to listen to your body. Eat early, stay light, and fast only if it suits your health needs.
