School Holiday: The effect of torrential rains is visible in many parts of the country and people are facing a lot of problems due to this. In view of this, the Punjab government has declared a four-day holiday in all the schools of the state. Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann said on August 26 that all government and private primary, secondary and senior secondary schools in the state will remain closed from August 27 to August 30.
He said, “It has been raining continuously for the last few days and according to the Meteorological Department, there is a possibility of heavy rain in the coming days as well.”
The Meteorological Department said on Tuesday that heavy to very heavy rains are likely to continue in northwest India till August 26. Heavy rains are expected in northwest Punjab and Jammu region in the next 24 hours. But heavy rains are likely to continue for the next five days, after which the weather may change. Due to the release of excess water from Pong and Bhakra dams in Punjab, villages in many districts have been flooded. The worst affected districts are Pathankot, Gurdaspur, Fazilka, Kapurthala, Tarn Taran, Ferozepur and Hoshiarpur.

The weather conditions are also severe in the neighbouring states. Himachal Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir and Haryana are also receiving heavy rainfall. Eight people have died due to rain and cloudburst in Katra and Doda in Jammu. Five people died due to landslide in Ardhkumari area of Katra and three people died due to cloudburst in Doda. At present, there seems to be little possibility of relief in Jammu.
